GLUTTONY

For the piece gluttony, I looked at overindulgence as a result of mental restriction. This is most evidently symbolized by the nature of the top, which is a corset. By featuring woven ribbons as a common motif throughout the garment, I show how one might try to impose limits on how much they consume, only for it to backfire. The fabric used here is also semi-translucent, showing how one might still feel numb or mentally unsatiated despite consuming large amounts of food.

I’ve also sewn fabric bubbles on the garment representing protruding flesh, alluding to how one might pinch at their body fat in shame of overeating. Hiding between these fabric bubbles are colourful beads– reminiscent of childhood innocence. These beads thus allude to how those who overeat are usually stripped of food freedom.
